HOME DECOR



SOME DECOR FOR A FRIENDS HOUSE

ACRYLIC PAINTS WERE USED TO CREATE ALL DIFFERENT MURALS AND FACTURES. IN MOST CASES - BEFORE PAINT WAS APPLIED - WALLS ETC. WERE PREPARED WITH PLASTER TO ACHIEVE CERTAIN DESIRED RELIEF - AS IT COULD BE SEEN ON BOTH FIRE-PLACES - OR - TO CORRESPOND SURFACE WITH SOME "AGED", RUSTICAL FEEL. OBSERVATIONS AND STUDY OF "REAL" OLD WALLS, STONES OR "FLAKED" MURALS OR FRESCOS ARE THE GREAT SOURCE FOR IDEAS ON HOW TO CREATE FAUX YET NATURAL LOOKING TEXTURES WITH PLASTER, THEN TO BE TONED DOWN WITH PAINT FOR GREAT INTERPLAY, WHICH - IN TURN - COULD BE TAKEN FURTHER, BIASED BY "AGEING" THE PAINT WITH A FRIENDLY HELP OF AN ABRASIVE MATERIALS.
ALL THE MOLDINGS THAT DECORATE PILLARS ARE HAND MADE - MOLDED - USING JUST PLASTER, A CUSTOM MADE MOLDING TEMPLATES AND HANDS, THE OLD WAY. ON SOME PILLARS MOLDINGS WERE COATED TRADITIOANALLY WHITE TO MATCH FAUX MARBLE OR IVORY TONE OF PILLARS THEMSELF. WHILE FOR ONE PILLAR THAT IS A CENTRE OF A SPIRAL STAIRCASE MOLDING WAS PAINTED RESEMBLING THE FEEL OF A DARK WOOD - PARTICULARY, CHERRY WOOD USED FOR SMOKING PIPES PROVIDES AN INSPIRATION.
THEME OF A FRESCO LIKE MURAL PAINTING IS A CLIENTS CHOICE AND IS NATURALLY A COPY OF A FRAGMENT OF A FAMED, WORLDS LONGEST GOBELAIN KNOWN AS BAYEUX TAPESTRY.

MY ACRYLIC MURALS

THESE ACRYLIC MURALS WERE CREATED DURING AUTUMN OF 2005 AT NOW DEFUNKT CAFE LOCATED THEN IN VÄIKE-KARJA STREET, TALLINN, ESTONIA.
CAFE WAS CALLED OASIS - OR AL-WAHA IN ARABIC - AND SERVED THEMED FOOD.
MURALS ARE INSPIRED - COMPOSITIONS, COLOURS, ORNAMETS, TEXTURES ETC. - BY ANCIENT ARABIC MINIATURES FROM POETRY BOOKS - NAMELY BY WORKS OF PERSIAN MASTERS MIRAK NAQQASH AND KAMAL AL-DIN BEHZAD. AS A SOURCE I ALSO STUDIED WATER-COLOUR REPLICAS OF ORIGINALS TAKEN BY GERMAN ARCHEOLOGISTS ON LOCATION IN 1800`S. IN MY CAUSE - FINAL RESULT HAS MOSTLY A TEUTONIC TOUCH.
POETRY ITSELF ALSO FOUND WAY ON THE WALLS OF THIS CAFE IN SHAPE OF ARABIC CALLIGRAPHY - YET IT COMES NOT FROM NIZAMI BUT FROM MUCH RECENT TIMES - I USED LYRICAL LINES FROM SONGS BY CONTEMPORARY LEBANESE SINGER FAIRUZ. HER MUSIC WAS MY SOUNDTRACK DURING THE WORK.
ALL IN ALL - ON TECHNICAL SIDE - ACRYLIC PAINT WERE USED ALONG PENCIL, SANGUINE, COAL, LASSERING LIQUID, VARNISH ETC. AGEING AND TEXTURAL EFFECTS WERE APPLIED.
MURALS ALONG THE INTERIORS CAN BE FOUND ON THE SITE OF AN INTERIOR DESIGNER WITH WHOM I WORKED BACK THEN AND UNDER WHOSE GUIDANCE THE WHOLE PROJECT TOOK SHAPE.SEE IT HERE:http://www.igorziko.com/gallery.php?gallery=cluboasis
